Geass:
Is a a supernatural "mental" ability that allows one to do certain supernatural mental abilities!.The powers seen so far ranges from sbsolute obedience through hypnosis(Lelouch),power to manipulate another person memories(Charles) to readings other peoples minds(Mao) and to affecting the the perception of time(Rollo)!.These are just some of the example!.
Only the Geass featured in the television show are considered canon though,some of the ones in the manga(Nightmare of Nunnally) extent beyond mental capabilities!.
The Geass sigil of a person starts in either the left of right eye!.As it gets stronger,it will move to both eyes!.It might also become permanant!.It is unknown which order comes first(It might be different for different individuals)!.Some Geass doesn't requre eye contact(Rollo,Mao,Bismark) while some do(Lelouch,Charles,Marianne)
It is important to note that every Geass User's Geass is different and would depend on their personality!.We have yet to see other people with the same Geass in the series though it might be possible!.Only certain individuals have certain potential to be Geass users!.
This is not fact but I theorise that certain individiual's Geass can only be used once on another individual!.Lelouch's Geass is the only one that has this limitation for sure though it'ss possible that Charles one has as well though it has not been proven!.
It should also be noted that posessers of Geass are not immune to the Geass affect of another Geass user!.For example,Mao was able to read Lelouch;s mind in S1 while the Emperor can manipulate Lelouch's memories as well!.
Geass posessoes can also be affected by their own Geass!.Lelouch Geassed himself in S1 to manipulate Mao!.
A Geass of a person gets stronger after each use(These can't always be measured though)!.After a while,it will become uncontrolable in the cases of Mao,Lelouch and CC's Geasses!.
For Lelouch and CC this was his and her order:

A Code is a seal of sorts that allows one to be immortal(CC is one of them)!.The origin of the Codes themselves are unknown but we know at least two were in existence before episode 21!.A person with a Code possess several abilities,the first is of course immortality,this also halts the process of aging from when the individual got the Code!.(For example,if you received the Code when you're 16,you stay 16 physically while you still possess it)!.
Another ability is the forge a Geass contract with an individual with the potential for Geass giving that individual Geass!.Example is CC forging the contract with Lelouch during the first episode giving him his Geass!.
But they don't stop there,Immortals(I'll call Code posessers that now) are also immune to the effects of ALL Geass!.Immortals can also bring out memories in other people for example,CC activating Suzaku's bad memories in Stage 10 of S1 to save Lelouch!.
It should also be noted that all Immortals(At least two of them) are former Geass users!.CC forged a contract with an Immortal centuries ago!.After CC's Geass became strong( enough,The Immortal,tired of living for eternity,forced her Code unto CC thus inflicting her with the curse of immortality!.
Once a Geass user received a Code and becomes an Immortal,he or she then loses her Geass and gains the trait of an Immortal!.Another important note is that the transfer process can be activated by either the Immortal or the Geass user!.In the case of CC,the Immortal Nun forced the Code unto her!.In the case of Emperor Charles,he took the Code from his brother VV!.
It is unknown if an Immortal dies when thy lose their Code as they are free to kill themselves if they wish!.In VV's case,he could have died because of his wounds after losing the Code!.
