Why is the kanji for bankai have a swastika? ?!

Question: Why is the kanji for bankai have a swastika!? !?
I know that the kanji doesn't purposely have a swastika, and that the kanji itself isn't a "swastika" which is the german term!. Could someone please explain this symbol, because it is not found in katakana for hiragana!. Is it a kanji symbol!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Yes, 卍 is a kanji!. As others have suggested, its presence in Japanese is partially due to it's significance in Buddhism!. It also has associations with 万 "man" (ten-thousand or "all") which can also carry the "ban" pronunciation!. The kanji is more commonly read "manji," which most simply means "swastika!." If you look at older Japanese maps (and some modern ones) you will see 卍 used to mark the location of Buddhist temples!.

Kubo has used it with it's much less common "ban" pronunciation!. The use of this kanji (he had other choices, 万 for example) probably has some significance since it is an unusual use of the kanji and also because he used the same symbol for Tensa Zangetsu's hand-guard!. I couldn't say exactly what significance it is meant to convey, but considering the emphasis Kubo places on Ichigo's ongoing relationship with his inner hollow, it probably has something to do with it's Buddhist meaning of "a balance of opposites!."Www@Enter-QA@Com

Symbols that look like the swastika are almost universal, and some First Americans (a!.k!.a!. American "Indians") had two symbols, one the mirror image of the other, that look much like a swastika and a reversed swastika!. The Greeks also had a similar symbol which is known as "the Greek Cross!." Ironically, the Oklahoma National Guard had adopted the First America symbol as its Unit Patch, and when America declared war on the Axis countries in December of 1941, the soldiers of the Oklahoma National Guard all looked like they were wearing swastikas!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Swastika was originally a Hindu symbol, it later became a Buddhist symbol as well!.

The Nazis took the symbol, rotated it 45 degrees (so it's like a diamond), and used it as their symbol, over some crack-pot theory that their white race came from North India!.

Kanji was created before Nazi Germany!.

Basically if the Nazi's took the Christian cross as their symbol, you would be wondering the same thing about the English language's lower-case t!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

In Asian Cultures the symbol can be found on art and pottery!. My history professor told me that it was originally a symbol for peace!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
