I forget where I read it, but it's apparently said like "Hunter Hunter"!. I remember because I used to say the X in the middle until I read something that told me that it wasn't there!.
I think it was one of those blurbs in the manga!. In one, the author wrote that he got the idea apparently from watching some comedy routine where everything was repeated!. Somewhere else, the title was explained as Gon hunting for his father, who's a hunter, therefore making him a hunter hunter!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you watch the previews after the closing credits, you'll hear that Gon doesn't say 'x', and maybe it's just there, like a substitute for something like &, but not quite!.
