I would suggest The Gentlemen's Alliance, Backstage Prince, Yotsuba&!, and AzuManga Daioh!.
First off, AzuManga Daioh is hilarious!. If you are looking for comedy, definitely check this one out!. It follows a group of girls with conflicting personalities (the quiet one, the crazy one, the smart one, the health-conscious one, etc!.) and their careers through high school!. But, it is not a high school-"esque" manga (in that the teenage emotional angst is not apparent)! It really is loaded with humor!. Please read this one! Yotsuba&! (in Japan it is known as Yotsubato) is also funny and is made by the creator of AzuManga Daioh (who is Kiyohiko Azuma)!. It is about an odd, sprightly little girl with green hair that causes trouble for the whole neighborhood!. This manga has a loveable cast of characters!. Next, Backstage Prince is a nice, two-volume story about a girl who falls in love with a cold kabuki actor!. This one doesn't have as much comedy, but I still think that you would like it after reading Skip-Beat!. Finally, The Gentlemen's Alliance is a highly-detailed, fast-paced comedy manga that follows a (multiple personalities!?!) girl in an all-out exclusive school where ranks are superior!. This manga is pretty different, and is worth being read!.
