Questions about cosplaying at conventions?!
Question: Questions about cosplaying at conventions!?
Well this is my first time going to a convention and I wanted to do a cosplay with my friend!. We are going as Meg and Jo from burst angel!.
My question is, at a convention is everyone usually nice about stuff!? And do people help you out and act friendly and like take pics n stuff!? Because my mom and her mom are worried and dont want to let us go alone because they say that anime conventions are just a bunch of old perverted men!.!.!. I dont think thats true!. I tried to explain to her that its mainly collectors and cosplayers that come and its all for fun!. She is still unsure!.!.!.
So two things -1!. would people make fun of use is our parents went and 2!. How can I convince her to let me go on my own!? Its pretty close to where I live so it shouldn't be a problem!.!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

1!. I have a friend who's 20 and her mom takes her to cons!. I've also hung out at a con with another friend's parents!. Then again, all these are "cool" parents who are into anime and even cosplay!. I've also seen the scarier "wtf is happening and you're not joining in" parents, who aren't as fun!.!.!. If that describes your mom, expect to explain every little thing to her!.!.!. Other than that, you shouldn't get made fun of!. also, con rules generally state that 12 and under need to stay with a parent, 13-17 need a parent or guardian on site (but don't need to stay with them), and 18 needs no guardian, so you could easily dodge your mom if you're over 13!.
2!. I've been to five cons (two of them very large) and have only seen one creepy pervert, and he wasn't even a part of the convention!. He was some pedo who thought he could grope 12 year olds in cosplay by joining their glomp circle (which was outside in a park)!. And he was quickly arrested!. There's only one other creepy guy I know of, and it's more that he's slightly mentally disabled and doesn't know what he's doing, but he follows people around and asks them questions!. Annoying, but he's easy to avoid!. And honestly, when he's not annoying, he's actually nice and very polite!. But I've read a lot of stories about con experiences and very few involve "old perverted men"!.
As for your other question, people are extremely friendly and always taking pictures!. Actually, my second Sakuracon, I was abandoned by my friends!. However, I was quickly adopted by a Gravitation group (I was cosplaying K) and we all hung out the rest of the con!. I then roomed with this group at a later con and now, we're pretty much a cosplay group! Though our group cosplay is now Yami no Matsuei as opposed to Gravitation!.!.!. But still!. It's a very relaxed and casual environment and 9/10 people won't mind if you run up and hug them or ask for their picture or talk to them or kidnap them!.!.!. Idk!.!.!. it's hard to explain!.!.!. but once you're there, you'll understand!. ^^Www@Enter-QA@Com

i don't know the answer to your first question!. but the second depends on how old you are if your like 16 and parents wont let you go out by yourself then there'ss a problem!. but if your like 12 then i can see were your parentss are coming from!. Www@Enter-QA@Com

And I am a staff member, I work at a local con!.
Anyway, anime fans are EXTREMELY nice to each other!. It's kind of odd, really!. There's a general understanding and friendship among anime fans!. I made half a dozen new friends at my first convention!. It's kind of hard to explain!. The anime community is very!.!.!.!.accepting and nice!. If you have a problem, just ask a staff member(who doesn't look busy!) and they'll be glad to help you out with anything!
Pictures and cosplay go together like penutbutter and jelly at anime cons! Although not everyone dresses up, most do, it's tons of fun! And if you work hard on your cosplay, tons of people will want your picture!

I see you didn't mention your age, which is imporant for my next answer, but I'll answer it anyway!. First of all, your mom doesn't have to worry if you're going with friends!. It's a very friendly atmosphere!. However, if she really doesn't want you to go along that's understandable!. She's never seen a convention before so she doesn't know what it's like, and therefore is just worried about you!. I would HIGHLY recommend taking her along for your first convention!. After she's seen one she'll feel a lot better about letting you go to future conventions!. And it's handy to have an adult around anyway!. before you cosplay, consider the following:
1 - what you look
you cant cosplay someone like cloud or tifa if you're too bloated and fat or your too skinny like a stick!. since some people are fans of some series, take it into consideration about their feelings!. i, for one, will be disgusted to see another belldandy or yuuko with tons of pimples and zits in the face
2 - the costume quality
never EVER go for improvised!. as much as possible, be detailed and realistic to what the characters are wearing!. if you live in the states, itll be a little easy in finding Meg's clothes since she has a texan get-up!.
anime conventions are filled with perverted old men - thats a given already but they're nice and would only usually take photos of you cosplayers from a distance!. its fairly safe since you'll also be guarded by "bouncers" at the con!. I havent heard of any news that a cosplayer was sexually harassed in an anime convention yet!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
