ichiru is not a vampire!.
from what I read from the manga, he went with shizuka to become stronger because i think he hated his weak self!. he actually kept on wondering why shizuka wouldn't drink his blood and only let him drink from her to become stronger!.!.!.
ichiru even asked shizuka why she wouldn't turn him into a vampire because according to him, if he became a vampire, shizuka's blood wouldn't taste so bad!.!.!.
