Never by an anime because someone else says to!.
There are numerous locations on line where you can view for yourself!.
I watched My-HiME and decided that I wanted the whole series (now, it helped that www!.rightstuf!.com was selling the entire 7-disc set WITH a collectors box for a mere $24)

I liked Stephen's answer that you shouldn't really trust the opinions of others!. Just because they liked or thought it was awesome does not necessarily mean that you will!.
However I'll give you my opinion so you can look around to see what you want to preview first!.
Eureka Seven if you like mecha anime mixed with surfboards, Eureka is actually the name of the lead female character!. Many don't seem to realize that most mecha anime are not about the mecha but the characters that use them, although my opinion on that is biased with me being a Gundam fan!.
Rahxephon only if you liked the series Evangelion, which is why I didn't get into Rahxephon!.
Gungrave and Trinity Blood look to me like they're from a similar genre of anime, not one I'm really fond of!. Looks a lot like Hellsing to me!.
Rurouni Kenshin, I'm going to assume you must have missed it when it aired on Cartoon Network!. Story in old Japan, a samurai wants to escape from the fighting and settle in a remote village!. Trouble comes looking for him!. I believe that was the jist of it!.
Check the link, it has summaries of many of the anime under anime profiles!. It's not a complete data base, and the moderators are working hard to keep it up to date!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Rahxephon!.!.!.I watched the show twice and I still don't think I completely understand it, but it is a good show if you like a bit (more than a bit really) of philosophy thrown into your shows!.!.!.which I do!.
Rurouni Kenshin is a very long series (95 eps!. and 2 movies) but it has a very engaging story line!.!.!.though there are a few more filler episodes in it than I would usually like!.
Trinity Blood is a good show!.!.!.though the end is!.!.!.!.a cliffhanger!. I was so hacked off about that, but I loved the show!. Watched it twice in fact!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
