i think i used the right ingredients, in the right amounts and i followed the instructions, but my pancakes just won't rise. they look like roadkill. what did i do wrong?
i used
1 cup all purpose flour
1 tsp baking powder
1/4 tsp salt
3 tbsp sugar
2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
1 cup milk
1 egg
1 tbsp butter, melted (optional)
i'm trying to make the perfect pancake and i cannot cause they look flat...

i do mix them separately....but i used a mixer when i put the wet ingredients with the dry ones (i hate fighting lumps)...

Your ingredients look right, but I have some suggestions:
*Mix your wet ingredients in one bowl
*Mix your dry ingredients in another
*When you combine the two, DO NOT OVER MIX THE BATTER! Blend it with a spoon just enough so that the dry mix is completely moistened, lumps are fine
*Try adding 2tbsp of fresh lemon juice to your recipe to make the pancakes come out fluffier.
*Do not put the batter on the pan/griddle until it is up to temperature (med-med high)
