Question:

Is it true that every time a songwriter's song is played on the radio they get paid?

Answers:

basically...yes...

BMI, ASCAP and SESAC (the three publishin' companies) pick radio stations at random a few times a years and require them to keep and submit a log of all music played durin' a certain time frame...

the companies then use those logs to compite how many times songs are probably played on similar formated stations...and the songwriter(s)...not the actual artist (unless thay have a writin' credit on the songs) get a royalty check once a year...
