I'm not sure my story is amusing, but I went to an Elton John Concert in Washington, D.C. I had bought tickets through a secondary source for $350 on the fourth row. The next day, I won front row tickets and passes to the pre-concert as the 100th caller.

I decided to dress in sequins and my hat and glasses were much like Elton's. I brought 2 dozen gladiolas with ribbons and I went into the press room, I had the flowers in front of my face and everyone thought I was him. That was so funny. Elton was not in the room nor did he show up there.

During the concert, he had finished singing, "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me", and I got up with my flowers to give to him. A big guy grabbed me (a security guard) and started to pull me back. I told him, "I'm not going to jump the stage, I just want to give Elton the flowers". Elton was on the far left of the stage and my seat was toward the right.

As I was being dragged back, Elton saw what was happening and he picked up his microphone from his piano and said, "Let that man go", to the security officer. I was let go and Elton said, "Come here". I did and gave him the flowers and a tape I had in my pocket of my singing a few of his songs and a few of mine as well. I gave him a card that I had ready as well.

He shook my hand and took the flowers, tape and card. He Took the ribbons off of the flowers and threw them onto his piano. I was speechless and at the end of the concert he motioned for me to come back to the stage and shook my hand again. I was the only one he touched on this particular occasion.

When I was leaving the stadium, people recognized me in the parking lot (due to my glitter and costume, which was conservative compared to Elton; not to mention I had hired a limousine). I heard, "that's him". "That's the guy who stopped the concert". Many people came up to me just to touch me for some reason and I must admit I enjoyed it.

When I feel down or out, I close my eyes and think of this moment. I think of shaking hands with Elton John. I remember his eyes looking through his glasses, holding his hand and feeling the rings on his fingers and seeing the the minute details of even the soles of his shoes. I remember his loud voice in his microphone telling the guard, "Let that man go".

My flowers remained on his piano the rest of the concert. For a fan such as myself, what other thing could be such a warming thing?

Soon after, I received an autographed photo with his signature, "Thanks for the flowers, Elton". How kind for a person who has given so much and has so much more to accomplish.
