Why do some recording artists have more than one record label on there cds?!

Why do some recording artists have more than one record label on there cds?
Answers:
sometimes a band releases an album on an independant label. then a major, or bigger, label will pick it up. the bigger label then rereleases the album, but the smaller label is still printed on it.
