How do I get a moldy smell off of records?!

Question:

How do I get a moldy smell off of records?

Leak in basement caused mold to half of the records in a box, they're lost however, the other half arent damaged or moldy but do have a moldy smell. Has any had success in removing the smell? The records & covers are in great shape, just have a strong scent.

Answers:

If you use a gentle dish detergent and a soft clean sponge, take lukewarm soapy water and take the soapy sponge and go in circles following the direction of the grooves on the record. This will not only clean the record, but it will alleviate alot of dirt in the grooves that causes skipping. After doing this, rinse the record using clean lukewarm water. DO NOT towel dry the record. Instead shake the excess water off in the air by holding the record in a way that your fingers do not touch the grooves. The oil in your skin could defeat your work. Then let the record air dry. Hope this helps.
