I don't think there is really a secret.
Unfortunately, a lot of the good tickets get bought immediately in bulk by scalpers who look to profit by flipping them.
I buy tickets online a lot for concerts and I found http://www.buyticketspro.com to be a great site. Ships really fast and I have found tickets to concerts which were completely sold out for weeks.
