Do recording artists earn money every time their song is played on the radio?!

Question:

Do recording artists earn money every time their song is played on the radio?

Just curious as to how certain songs get played, and who gets paid....

Answers:

As a promoter, band manager and band memeber it depends on the band and the system they have set up. some radio stations pay the band to let them play their song on their station while some bands pay the radio to have them play their song or a radio station will just let some bands get exposure on the radio free for both parties. There are also times that the band will pay the radio station and the band makes profits off of listeners buying their merch, it can also be any random combo. of these.

So there are times when only one of them makes money or they both profit, you know you have a flop (or a sucky band) when one pays the other and gets no results or very negitive ones, in those cases the station will drop the band or the band quits/writes new material
