Boss effects pedals for guitar??!

Question:

Boss effects pedals for guitar??

do u need a boss 9 volt adapter to use a boss pedal r can you use any 9 volt adapter for it?

Answers:

Your pedal could be powered by a generic adapter but you would need to find one with the proper voltage output and current ratings, and the correct size barrel plug wired with the correct polarity. The adapter's output voltage should be verified not to exceed the pedals maximum input voltage and the current rating should meet or exceed the pedals current requirerments. (Should be listed on a label or in the pedals documentation) The next hurdle is getting one with the proper connector wired with the proper polarity. You can buy all types of wallwarts (adapters) on the electronic surplus market. I have bought ones like you need for just a couple of bucks. The only problem is that they hardly ever seem to have the right combination of connector and polarity. So you take your pedal to radio shack and have the salesperson sell you the correct plug. Then take off the plugs screw on insulator and plug it into your pedal's power input jack. Use a volt/ohmmeter in ohms mode to find which terminal has near 0 resistance to ground. That terminal gets connected to the adapters negative wire and the other to the positive wire. (The wire your voltmeters positive lead (red) is connected to when your getting a proper voltage reading) Put the plugs insulator on the wire first and then solder the wires to the proper terminals. Twisting on the wires won't cut it! You now have an adapter that functions, however some wallwarts are better than others at filtering out 60 cycle hum. Try to find an adapter thats designed for and audio device or for a complex digital device as they would more likely have adequate filter capacitors to keep the noise level down. Sounds like quite a hassle to save 15 bucks doesn't it? However if you have lots of pedals all needing adapters it might start to be worthwhile especially if you or a friend has a volt/ohm meter and soldering tools. Another advantage to D.I.Y adapters is you can get one adapter that puts out enough current to power more than one pedal. Anyway, I hope this answers your question. If not feel free to email.
