Question:
Bass guitar - other than cost, what are the differences between round wound and flat wound strings?
When I first played bass, 30 years ago, they all had flat wound. Now all new ones have round wound. Will round wound be easier to finger?
Answers:
Flat wound are smoother to play, but lack the tone quality of round wound. My advise would be to use the round wound and get used to them. I won't take that long and there is no comparison in the sound or the life of the string. Flat wounds aren't used much anymore because they don't ring and give you the true tone of the bass.
