Is it better to start guitar on an electric of acoustic and what brand?

I want to learn the guitar. I'm looking at guitars and prices but I'm completely clueless. I just want something good that I can learn on.

Start with an accoustic. If you're just learning, there's no need to get anything expensive. You can get a decent Yamaha or Samick accoustic for less than 150, which should be fine for learning. Later if you decide you want to continue with the guitar, upgrade to an electric.

Another idea is to rent something. Most music stores will offer rentals for a relatively low price. This way, if you decide you don't like playing the guitar, you're not stuck with a guitar that you'll never use.
