the band I want isn't a BIG famous band.
its the rocket summer.
so I'm guessing it wouldn't be TOO expensive. ?

Answers:

That really depends on the band. You can get some local bands to play free or very, very cheap, but if you're looking for a name band, you'll have to pay for their travel, food, hotel, and then pay them a fee on top of that and they all charge different amounts.

Many name bands feel birthday parties and such are beneath them (frankly if you offer them enough money, suddenly it's not so unappealing to them).

Look at it this way, a very good wedding band of unknown musicians will run you anywhere between 2,000 to 10,000 bucks and up. Most name bands will surely charge more unless they're total has-beens and desperate for a gig.

My advice, if you're not looking for a specific name band, is to go to local clubs, find a band you like and ask what they'll charge to play.

The standard , if you want them to play all night, is a 4 hour contract which usually includes breaks, a meal and beverages (up to you if they involve alcohol or not, but most bands don't like being limited to soft drinks).

If you just want them for an hour or so it's negotiable.
