Where did orchestral manovers in the dark get their name from?!
Question:
Where did orchestral manovers in the dark get their name from?
Answers:
This is an excellent question to which I have always wanted to know the answer. I have always been a big fan and went to their gigs in their hey day and even met them backstage at the Liverpool Empire (82 or 83) but in my state of awe I failed to ask about the name. I am even from the Wirral!
The band was originally called VCLXI (461), supposedly after the valve number on Kraftwerk's Radioactivity album but I have my doubts. If you look on the album the valve number is XCL 11. They also wrote a song of the same name (VCLXI). However, try as I might, I cannot find out where they got "Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark" from.
