Can a semi-hollow be used unamplified too!?!

Answers:

The Rickenbacker 330 is a semi-hollow body guitar.

The differences are as follows: A solid body is exactly that. The wood on the body is one, weather laminated, or one solid piece of wood. It has little resonant properties in comparison with hollow and semi-hollow body guitars. They are excellent for high volume, high gain situations. These guitars are usually associated with rock music. An example of a solid body electric is a Fender Strat.

A hollow body electric is similar in construction to an acoustic in that it has a low body mass, and is hollow in the center. They are very resonant and can be played unamplified, as well as through an amp. However, this type of guitar is prone to feedback at high volumes and higher gain settings when played through an amplifier. This kind of guitar is usually associated with Jazz music. An example of a hollow body is a Gibson ES-330.

A semi-hollow body guitar is somewhat of a hybrid of the two. It has a more dense construction than a hollow body, but contains chambers that allow more natural resonance than a solid body can provide. Like their hollow body cousins, they are somewhat prone to feedback at high volumes, and high gain amp settings. These guitars have been used in all types of music from Jazz, Rock, Rockabilly, Country, and more.
