at most music award shows musicians get awards for best album, best song, best new artiest. these awards are given out based on record chart popularity or album sales. what i want to know is are there any music awards that are given to musicians who have real talent and are given to them based on the talent and not there popularity

In the UK we have The Mercury Music Prize, where a group of 12 journalists and critics choose 10 albums for the shortlist, and then another group of people choose the winner.
It's usually a very diverse selection.
Anything from punk, folk, classical, pop, R&B, etc.
Two years ago Anthony & The Johnsons won, and their album went rocketing up the charts, but hardly anyone had heard of them before that.
