Does anyone know the meaning of the lyrics for Chop suey?

I am not a big rock fan but SOAD are heavy-the dudes voice is almost operatic in depth-I would love to hear opinions on what he means by "I cry,when angels deserve to die" and " wake up,time to put on a little make-up-I dont think you trust in my self -righteous suicide"

thanks for the input-have just listened to toxicity and he seem to be on about Jesus "when I became the son I shone light into the mans hearts " Could it be religious? I have to admit SOAD are R A T E D.

Em and Prunella -many thanks ,most insightful-I find you very rarely get such intelligent(ish) lyrics in heavy tunes like this-I suppose it is too much to ask for non-religious music-the devil has the beast choooonz

A comparison I can draw is the fallen angel-come-devil Lucifer. When you expect someone to help you, but actually they only hinder or hurt you. There was a similar line in a Billy Talent song, which went "Need more friends with wings, all the angels I know put concrete in my veins"

"Wake up, time to put on a little make-up"
About hiding. This is a common musical refferal - people note how they feel that before they can face the world they must create a mask to hide behind. Make-up is the obvious choice. Both me and a friend I have are like this (he's a bloke, i'm a chick, which is useful for demonstrating the variety of people this can apply to) - he won't leave his bedroom without make-up, and I won't leave the house without it, not because of simply disliking how I look, but because it forms a useful facade behind which I can hide any weakness

"I don't think you trust in my self-righteous suicide"
I personally relate to this, because having been suicidal in the past, I can now recognise that it was COMPLEATLY self-righteous! Thinking that things really cannot get better despite peoples' advice or concern, and thinking that you've found the best solution in death, regardless of what others may think of that.
