How do musicians sound better in a recording studio than live??!

Question:

How do musicians sound better in a recording studio than live??

why is that musicians sound much better on albums and sound great in the recording studio and then sound bad live? what is done recording wise to make them sound better in the studio?

Answers:

Various takes/trial runs and such...they can sing section by section and then through sound editing, combine them all...
they aren't out of breath from dancing...
sound editing...makes the voice sound smoother and more clear
recording is much clearer as opposed to magnifying the singers' voice through the mic and speakers...
