The one movie that comes to mind is "The Day After Tomorrow" because it was a film that depicts catastrophic effects of global warming causing large areas of the Greenland and Antarctic ice shelves to break off and melt, diluting the North Atlantic Ocean with large amounts of fresh water raising the ocean sea levels and causing catastrophic events around the world.
One of the scenes was of a large Russian ship stuck in ice right outside of the New York City Library...this is why your comment about a "giant ship" reminded me of this movie.
The movie starred Dennis Quaid and Jake Gyllenhaal and was released in May of 2004.
