The Post Office Have Lost My Parcel What Do I Do? (UK)?!

Question:

The Post Office Have Lost My Parcel What Do I Do? (UK)?

I had a dvd boxset (quite expensive) posted to me recorded delivery but was out at the time of the delivery. I had one of those cards put through the door to go and collect it from the delivery office. When I went to get it they didn't have it, they don't think the postman ever returned it to them! Since then they have just been messing me around, I can't get a straight answer from anyone. What can I do?

The plot thickens, it seems that the postman in question has been reported by other people for various reasons. It now seems very likely that he has stolen it! I've complained to the royal mail and they will investigate but they say it could take up to a month so now I've paid for a dvd boxset that I dont have and have little chance of having within the next month. I think it's disgusting how people can get away with behaving so unprofessionally! I'm not a confrontational person normally but this guy has stolen from me and I'm going to try and get him sacked.

Answers:

I've had an almost identical experience with an item sent to me by Special delivery. Using the online tracking, the delivery driver had claimed to have attempted delivery at a particular time, which was a lie because I was at home at that time. When I went to the delivery office to collect it they could not find my letter.

Look on the Royal Mail website for details of lost (in reality probably stolen) items. You have to wait a certain amount of time before an item is considered to be lost. There is then an online form to fill in regards the loss. Depending on how the item was posted/insured you may be able to recover some of the financial loss.

In my case they paid me the then £70 for a replacement passport.
