Is it ok to use tenor sax reeds as a substitute for alto sax reeds..??!

Is it ok to use tenor sax reeds as a substitute for alto sax reeds..??

It does work, and some people really like to do that. In fact on a saxophone forum I am part of they were just discussing this. Some felt it changed their tone in ways they liked, others felt it didn't do much at all. Personally, I don't get the point of it other than as a quick stop-gap measure because you have no working alto reeds and only tenor reeds are available. I feel it is like using a tennis racket in baseball, sure it works, but why?
