Is downloading music and film without paying wrong?!

Question:

Is downloading music and film without paying wrong?

You have no money ever, seriously never. You're a completionist and if you could afford it or if cds and dvds were more reasonably priced you'd buy loads of them, you've got extremely diverse taste and to collect all the music and film you love will cost more money than you're ever gonna have. So is it a bad thing morally to download it for free? Also over about 10 years you've probably spent more than ten grand on movies and music.

O.K. I know technically it is stealing. I'm talking morally. Once an artist creates something it is a piece of art, I don't have to pay if I want to listen to the radio, I don't have to pay if I wan't to look at Picasso's art on the net and I don't have to pay channel 4 to watch the Sopranos so why should a digital copy of a song be any different. Is it because this copy is in my possesion and I can use it any time I want? So really the moralistic dilema comes from the fact that I now have the abbility to listen to this music or watch this film when it suits me.

Answers:

its only bad because the fat cats that make the dvds and cds want the money so they can get fatter and fatter and sit on all that cash! most retail stuff is 100%-150% mark up! from clothes to dvds to toys, if most people actually knew how much it really cost to make a full dvd in its case with artwork they would realise that they are constantly being ripped off by the fat cats and would probably soon decide to download it all for free....
anyways what they hell was the internet made for if not for all the free stuff you can get on it!!!!

besides, it aint the end of the world if some people get their films n cds off the net for free, although it may eventually be the end of cinemas and some of the fat cat industries that make them... booo hoooo!

there are plenty of people that are happy to pay for the rip off priced retail stuff to compensate for the people who dont, and if you want originals theres always ebay, car boots & pre-owned shops for the more budget concerned among us!
a shop called gamestation do pre-owned dvds and you buy-one-get-one-free! what a bargain, but not as good as free of course lol.
