Are followers of ICP in a cult of some kind?!

Question:

Are followers of ICP in a cult of some kind?

I am trying really hard to understand the devotion to this group - it's borderline cultish - and I want to know what the appeal is. Is it a philosophy, or the music, or do people just like them for shock value?

Answers:

It depends on your preferred definition of the word 'cult'; that is a whole new debate for a new day. I, personally, see Juggalos as a subculture. Ask yourself, "are Juggalos any more than a set of people with a set of behaviors and beliefs, which could be distinct or hidden, that differentiate them from the larger culture to which they belong?"

Juggalos have a certain style, slang, and interest just as much as a goth, punk rocker, or someone of the hip-hop would have. Please note that cult members often isolate themselves from friends, family, and even society in general. Cult leaders are also known to use manipulative methods to control the minds of their followers. Is there any evidence that ICP does this?

If you ask me, Juggalos are nothing more than a small a world within a larger world of the dominant culture. Afterall, it is a term used to describe fans of ICP. However, that is debatable if you ask a Juggalo. The Juggalo may believe that they are a unique individual who share the same lifestyle as other unique individuals.

If you look at it from a realistic perspective, they're people who are labeled in order to differentiateand identify themselves from other people.
