Question:
UK: What year did the New Romantic period peak in Britain?
Answers:
I would say about 1983, in Britain
Michael Jackson's 'Thriller' album marked the beginning of the end for the New Romantics - especially 'Beat It' - suddenly guitar solos were cool again, the antithesis of the New Romantics.
Rockwell's 'Somebody's Watching Me' with Jacko on backing vocals in 1984 brought music with more of a rap / R&B edge into the charts. Then there was Prince with 'Purple Rain' also in '84. By then the New Romantics were well and truly out in the cold.
