I want to start doing stand up comedy I'm not sure how to get started? Also I'm 26 is this to old to start ?

Answers:

Go to stand up comedy, go to open mic nights. There's a lot of time invested with no financial gain. Get a job doing traffic comedy school to pay the bills.

Get into writing. A lot of comedians were writers at some point. THIS is important.

Also try out improv. A lot of people on SNL were from Groundlings, Second City, did one act shows (Margaret Cho and John Leguizamo started off doing those, and that's a matter of renting the place) or were from standup.

There's a lot of studying involved past and present.

No age limit when to do comedy, some start as soon as they're talking, some have had dead end jobs that led to taking the mic one night, some stumbled into it.

Some will get a bit part in a movie and that's all it takes. Some go on radio as a support player.

Last Comic Standing is actually a good place to get noticed.

A lot of people aren't all that good at it and it takes a thick skin to put up with hecklers. Michael Richards was someone who tried out standup but he's a character actor. You saw how that went. A lot of comedians aren't funny people offstage. Some are really shy.

You need to fill up 10 minutes without failing. It can take a year to get it just right.

Find your style, and give credit where credit is due.

Comedians can be a supportive bunch or your worst enemy.

As with any job, networking is extremely important.

Once you get noticed, then you may want to get an agent to go to the next level. Make sure it's someone that's got a decent track record. No money up front types.

Watch Seinfeld's "Comedian" movie.
