What does the term "five by five" mean?!

Question:

What does the term "five by five" mean?

Answers: In the begining, aeronautical radios stregth and clarity were measure on a scale of 1 to 5. Essentially, 5 by 5 meant that the radio had perfect stregth and clarity, or that the message was "loud and clear." Pilots would make the call of "5 by 5" to say that the radio signal was good. Eventually, the slang use for "5 by 5" meant that eveything was well or good. And faith used it in referse, because when she claimed things were "5 by 5" it meant that they were as bad as they could be.

Incidentally, when Wesley got cut out from the group on Angel, he started using the phrase as well. in what context? This is my best guess. I remember them saying "Five by five" in the movie Aliens. I can't be sure unless you confirm, but I'm thinking you were probably watching a Buffy episode and heard Faith, the slayer-gone-bad, say it.

Basically, 5x5 is slang for "everything's alright". It has other meanings too, but this one would is the only reason I could think of that you would ask it.

Then, again I could be wrong.
