YES YES YES!
Do NOT buy a cheap guitar! Or an expensive one. Buy a well priced guitar, that is easy for beginners. I suggest an Ibanez, a Strat, or a Telecaster. Your local guitar retailer can help you find the right one.

Now... an amp meant for a bass guitar... Well, if you want good distortion then you should get one meant for a normal 6-String. But if its ok with you if distortion is a little off, buy it. Just make sure you have the right cords.

Pickups are the little things under thhe strings on the body. They are actually little magnets. When the strings are strummed, the vibration upsets the magnetic field between the pick-ups and the strings. Copper wire is wrapped around the magnets, and the wires carry the electrical waves to the knobs. The knobs, depending on which way they are turned, alter the electrical waves. Then the electrical waves travel through the cord, and sound comes out of the Amplifier.
So basically, the more pick-ups you have, the better the sound. I have four on my electric, and it sounds great.

I really hope this helps. I love my guitar, its agreat instrument to play. I think you will enjoy it too.

PS- It doesnt matter what you play- if its on high volume and high distortion, it always sounds cool!
