Party Anxiety?!

Question:

Party Anxiety?

Ok, so I am having a boy/girl birthday party for 12-14 year olds. Im am really nervous that people will start showing up, and just standing around all awkward not saying anything. Then the party will seem really lame, like they came here and theres nothing to do. On the plus side, my parents have a friend that is going to DJ.
I DEFINATLY DO NOT want any kind of "theme". Soo corny, and people notice that. No planned "activities", no theme. I need something though, to break the ice with all the awkward guests. They are fun people at school! But when they get here, they will act all shy and then what?
Is there anything you would reccomend fun to do with everyone that will get them going, that doesnt seem too much like an "activity"?

Answers: if you can get a dance area and some good music the ice will break really fast The purpose of games and activities is to get people talking to each other.

I write a party blog and recently wrote one on teen parties. Maybe the resources at the bottom will give you ideas.
