Why is there always a "mean English guy" on those star search shows??

I seen like four of those star search/invention search shows and they all have some mean English guy like simon cowell, how come they like to wear that out?

Answers: I think it's because American Idol was a hit, and many people know it. Americans like "familiarity"*, and the "mean English guy" is something they 'know' from a previous show. Americans are more likely to watch something that has sameness. Source(s):
