Will a non-Brit ever be able to get the essence of the British sense of humour?!

Question: a lot of other nationalities don't understand it, but it doesnt mean they're stupid, they just communicate differently.

there are many americans and canadians who love and appreciate the british sense of humour, and of course australians and nzers have the same sense of humour so the answer is, yes of course.

they should do, its different and uniqu but its hardly complex is it?!

Sarcasm, sharp wit...... difficult to master?
doubt it, funny you should ask this question, i was talking to someone the other day, about what foreigners think of us (really). She told me, that most other countries people, think brits are sick, and that we get off on seeing others suffer. Don't know if that is true, but she does travel alot, and have no real reason to doubt her.

So next time anyone goes on holiday anywhere, watch their attitude towards you a bit more closely, we'll soon know.

No, I don't think so. American "comedy" programmes appear to have slapstick-type of humour, or scripts which would barely raise a smile here, and all with canned laughter

We get it, and not just a few of us. Even some Yanks get it, but only if they watch PBS.

I am Canadian. Our humour is halfway between American and British, and therefore the most accessible as evidenced by our disproportionate representation in Hollywood comedy shows and movies.

An example of a more subtle shade of British influence humour is the Canadian TV series "Corner Gas"

Google it.
