i believe it says its made in Kalamazoo - thats in America. its from 1981 and the condition seems pretty good. though i'm not a seasoned pro, i have 10 years experience playing and buying / selling guitars - honestly i'm not as familiar with Les Pauls because they're not my thing. IMO i wouldn't pay more than $700, but it could be worth up to $1,400 (BIG MAYBE). consider that you cant try it before you buy it. unless if you have your heart set on this particular model and you're willing to take a chance, i wouldn't pay more than $700. if you're really looking for a Les Paul then this one is probably a good choice.

also - the whole made in America thing is a rule of thumb. generally you will expect a better quality guitar made in America than if it were made in China or Korea. but good quality guitars are frequently made in Japan and Mexico. my main guitar, an ESP flying V custom from '91, is made in Japan.
Would you buy a car without test driving it?
It's one of the best guitars you will ever play
I wouldn't give you $5 for it. I have a Gibson Gemini of about the same year and it's junk.

Gibsons of that ear were either built in Japan or, probably, that one was built in Korea.

There is nothing wrong with a guitar that is not made in AmeriKa... MOST really GOOD guitars are NOT made in AmeriKa... but you can do much better than an overpriced Gibson.
It -was -made in America, one of the last made at Gibson's factory in Kalamazoo, Mich.

The Gibson Les Paul is a very nice guitar for a certain kind of music. They are very desirable and I'm sure the price will go even higher. In fact you might consider it an investment.

My only problem with the Les Paul model is that it's very heavy. I had a friend years ago who had one and I used to play it sometimes. It would give me a backache after a while.
