What is the origin of Mexican "Banda" music?!

Question: I've been told that there were lots of German immigrants to Mexico, which led to polka becoming popularized. This seems far-fetched, but I've always wanted to know where "Banda" comes from. We hear it all the time here in Southern California. Any insights?

Hey, dude, here is the scoop. Just go to the link for the full story. Thanks for bringing it up because I didn't know what to call it!

More:
"Banda is a brass-based form of traditional Mexican music. Bandas play a wide variety of songs, including rancheras, corridos, cumbias, and boleros. Bandas are more widely known for their rancheras, but they also play modern pop, rock, and cumbias.La Banda el Recodo, Banda Jerez, El Coyote, and Julio Preciado are some of the most famous banda artists. Yolanda Pérez and Jenni Rivera are two of the few prominent female banda artists". As people travel North to Cali. the music naturally comes with them!

a lot of German did come to Texas where you get "Tex-Mex" so it is possible that Germans had influence on Mexican music.
