Mellophone help please!?!

Question: I switched to mellophone a couple weeks ago and i'm having a problem. When you hit a trigger, and so many notes can come out, how do you know which one is right? Like how to adjust your amasuch to get the right note you want? Do all brass instruments have to deal with this?

Thanks!

yes, all brass instruments deal with this!

higher notes=tighter embouchure & faster air flow
lower notes=looser embouchure & slower air

the way to get control is to do lipslurs, lots of em,....

get an arbans (trumpet) book and do all the slur excercises you can find

the only other thing i can tell you is that any kind of ear training can help, then you know how a phrase is supposed to sound before you play it.
