Did punks (back then) wear eyeliner?!

Question: I don't want to hear bs like "NO, only posers and crappy bands wear eyeliner." I just want to know, was it like something that the punks did back then? or is it a new trend thing?

I don't know about the old school punk bands back then... But take a look at some of your Rock bands like Poison and such. They wore eyeliner, mascara, and sometimes eyeshadows.

I don't believe that it is a new trend. I think it goes way back. Probably a bit of a shock value. Think about Alice Cooper too.

Now days, any band you see is wearing eyeliner from the alternative rock to gothic rock.

My Chemical Romance, The Used, HIM, etc... Actually if I take a look at the posters around me... Most of the guys have eyeliner on. I mean I don't think there's a thing wrong with it because some of the best music I've ever listened to have men wearing makeup. I don't think that makeup attributes to the music though.

Ville Valo (from HIM) made a comment once in a mag I read that said "There are loads of young musicians who think that the first step to becoming successful in the world of music is to learn how to do your eyeliner" and that is 100% true. A lot of bands are out here for their images but a lot of them are staying true to the music.

Do expect a lot of people to come here to diss bands. I would never diss a musician... I mean... Unless you're Amy Winehouse...

Well from an old punk chick from "back then" Yes they did. My guy friends used to come to my house in the mornings before school so I could put theirs on for them. lol

Got into the scene around ehh... 83 or 84 or there abouts anyhow... Yup... I wore quite a bit of it. Just kind of depended upon what part of the scene you hailed from. The inheads and straight edge kids didnt really but death punks and the rest of us did... Check out the original SLC Punk, Decline of the Western Civilization (The first one), or even Suberbia... the styles were about par for the times.
