Looking for something similar to Utada Hikaru?!

Question: In any language, major, indie, I don't care.

Actually, it doesn't need to even sound THAT similar to her. Just not stupid.

I need something to listen to until her next album is out!

Her next album is coming soon, but I understand what you mean by being impatient in waiting. Coming from a real Utada-fan, I've tried to find REAL music, not "fake" or "stupid" like you say.

Give these a try: (artist, song, album)

Ai Otsuka, Planetarium, LOVE COOK
This preceeded Utada in being a main song in Hana Yori Dango (Utada's Flavor of Life was in Hana Yori Dango 2). This is a sad, flowing song. Very dramatic.

Ayumi Hamasaki, Moments, My Song
I fell in love with this song. It's so moving. Genius. And it's music video is inspiriing. It's very fairytale sounding.

Origa, Inner Universe, Ghost In Shell
This is a Russian/English/Japanese artist and has a very techno-y, other wordly feel. Her voice reminds me of the preceeding artist, Ayumi Hamasaki. Sort of ghost-like.

Gary Jules, Mad World, Tears of Fears
This is an English song that was also part of a video game soundtrack (like Utada's Passion). It's piano is beautiful. Lyrics are lovely. Dreamlike!

Love Psychodelico, Your Song, The Greatest Hits
This artist reminds me of America's Avril Lavigne, except... good. It's very punk and homey, like Utada's Nichyo No Asa.

Paramore, Crushcrushcrush, Riot!
And English artist. Very punk like Love Psychodelico. Reminds me a lot of Utada's Exodus album. Rock out!

Yiruma, River Flows In You, First Love
A pure piano song that is so moving!! Just BEAUTIFUL! I can't get over it!!

I noticed her when I found out she did a song for Kingdom Hearts...did you try some soundtracks to some video games? Like Final Fantasy? Cheesy I know...but similar.

Nami Tamaki,

a japanese singer
she's on tofu records (but the site is remodeling)
she also sang some songs from the gundam seed series if you've heard of it

also try high and mighty color if you're into j-pop!

have you listened to Yui? she's great too.
