There is always the "lazy mans copyright".Put your stuff on a cd and mail it to yourself from a mailbox then it will have a postmark on it with the date and year.
ps-Don't ever open it unless you need to prove something.
Intellectual property is protected as long as you can verify that you created it on or prior to the date someone infringes on your material. Posting it on myspace would be sufficient.
You can go through a formal process of obtaining a copyright from the library of congress, but that's probably not necessary.
