whats the best way to learn to play a piano or a keyboard. I know there different but it should be the same concept of learning. I want to know what steps I should take from beginner to advance in how to learn to play on my own.

Buy some beginner books. You know the ones that show how to position your hands and all that jazz. Buy one of those books and you will know how to play and a few days.
uhmm you can listen to songs with piano in it then try to copy the notes just listen and figure it out. like welcome to the black parade by my chemical romance. good luck :]
