Is it too much to ask to just be.....discovered?!

Question: The acting department at my school sucks and there really isn't any good acting schools near me. But I have always wanted to be in movies and my whole life I have had wacky dreams, but then I always come back to this one. I'm gonna have to go off to college soon and I know that I wont be happy being there and that even though my parents want me to have a secure job and a life, it's not what I want. I have always wanted to BE an actor. Not a celebrity, and actress. I just don't know what to do. I know I may be young, but I know that I want this. I just don't know what to do. Advice?

One of the great things about college is that you can study art and theater while you are there. Don't rule out college before you even try it; there are plenty of skills you will learn there, even majoring in theater arts, that you will need for the real world, and besides, it's really a fun place to be.

It may not be too much to ask to be discovered, but it is a lot of work, because hundreds of thousands of people want the same thing. Even if you do manage to get into the acting profession, it's hardly an easy life...there are so many people lined up who want those jobs that you can be let go at a moment's notice and be out of work for long periods before the next audition.

As someone who has had theater as a paid hobby for years, let me share a bit of my wisdom. You should only seriously pursue this if you truly think you could never be happy doing anything else but acting. But there are plenty of other fields you could apply those skills to. You could go into broadcasting, be a public speaker, run a school for young actors, even run for political office. You may also discover a talent for other aspects of the theater that you enjoy...building or designing sets, stage managing, costuming, music, or historic referencing. But for any of those things, you will certainly need other skills besides what you learn in the theater.

You're coming into a point in your life when choices are endless. Not everyone has the opportunity to go to college, you know. I suggest you make the most of it to do what you love and learn to apply those skills you will learn to whatever you ultimately choose to do. Good luck!

Keep up with what you love,

and you'll eventually get discovered.

You just gotta get to the right people.

just go to any movie set and ask for an job as an extra or background girl.... if they like you they might hire you.
p.s: i want to be in movies as well. it seems like such an awesome job

In the words of Criss Angel...."you can have women, money, cars, anything. All you have to have is have: A dream, believe in it, and presue it."

hope it helps.

all your hard work will pay off soon enough.

Find a college with a good department of theatre. Go. Learn. Grow. Enjoy. And stay long enough to get a bachelor's degree. While you are there, you will learn a great deal about the theatre, television and film industries and what it takes to make it. You can go to college, and be happy and please your parents and pursue your dream, too!! Good luck!!

Take a class, and see how the acting community, the demands and the classes suit you. The community college in this area has a summer production, so check in your area - it might be a better way to try something new, and not interfere with your overall academic schedule. No regrets. Have a happy and healthy new year!

oh girl...i know the feeling...it's actually pretty much the same over here....all i want to do is be an actress...i know thats what im cut out to be...i'm 16, still in 2nd year of senior high, so i only take part in school performances... my parents are quite negative also, about the uncertainty of the job and stuff, but they like how i play...but i houtave to please them too....so here's my plan: i'll go study in university, sth i also like, law, and along with this i'll be in a drama school...and if it doesnt work ....
