Buying my first guitar, ever.?!

Question: I've already asked but I'm still nervous. I'm afraid I'll get ripped off by a salesperson because I don't know anything about guitars. I've read alot of guides about choosing guitars with strings not so high off the fretboard, just things like that, but it's alot of information and above all I'm just scared I'll end up paying too much for something not worth it.

So if it's not too much trouble, could someone just briefly summarise what I should be looking for with buying a new acoustic guitar? And can you get acoustic guitars with nylon strings? By the way I don't have too much money and I would draw the line at 300 dollars.

Oh, and I live in Australia.

Thankss.

I've played guitar now for about 6 yrs and I've learned many things through experience. First, some of the better quality and sounding guitars I think are Fender, Alvarez, and Ovation. These are great if you can get a hold of one but they can be a little pricey, other that that guitars are mainly preference, you know what you like once you play and hear it. Second, of all no you can't buy an acoustic guitar with nylon strings, but you can have the tension rod in the neck adjusted so that you can put nylon strings on it. As far as your question goes about the distance between the strings and the frets that is called the action of the guitar. That is also a touchy detail that is mainly preference. The closer the strings are to the neck the less you have to push down on the strings to play the notes. So if you don't mind having to pushed down on the strings really hard and getting worse calucies I wouldn't go with high action guitars. The action can also be adjusted by adjusting the tension rod it the neck, this rod is what gives the neck that slight bow that all guitars have. Also keep in mind the gauge of he strings also plays a part in the action of the guitar, the higher the gauge the further the strings are from the neck. If you are just starting off go with light or extra light strings (.010 or.009).

Hope this helped.

LIVING IN AUSTRALIA IS IRRELEVANT...FIRST BUY A USED GUITAR....SECOND ,NOT ELECTRIC AND THIRD...DO NOT WORRY ABOUT ANY DIMENSIONS OTHER THAN WHEN YOU PLACE 2 OR MORE FINGERS ON THE NECK AND YOU STRUM ....DOES IT CAUSE SOME DISCOMFORT......IF IT DOES NOT BUY THAT GUITAR
