Answers: I am in London on 7th may and want to see joseph but Lee is on holiday that week and am wondering whether it will still be worth seeing.

No it is not his understudy.
Lee is having three holidays - January, March and May and all three times the part of Joseph is being taken by Lewis Bradley the young, blonde northerner, who actually came third in the tv competition.
We saw it last August with Lee and he was very good but we will be going to see Lewis as he is rather lovely!!!!

Oh yes it's still worth seeing. And in answer to your question, Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber is his stand-in and you can hardly tell the difference.

The understudies for Joseph are James Bisp, first cover, who normally plays Asher and Ricky Rojas, second cover, who normally play Levi.

I went to see it just before chrismas, with Lee Mead, however I would say that with or without him, it would be an excellent show. The rest of the cast, especially Dean Collinson as the Pharoh are excellent. (Dean Collinson was the star of the show for me)
