If you potted the black without potting all your own balls first, surely you lost, not won?

i've done it several times, as well as the 9 ball in 9-ball.
i always ask my opponent how they play (if the 8 on the break is a loss or a win). if they say win, i go for it.
technically you lose the game
it just depends on the house rules or tournoment rules
or rules agreed upon before you start to play
the 8 ball is suppose to be respoted and the game continues
only in 9 ball you win if you sink the 9 on the break

Depends what the game rules are, in some games it's a win, some games a loss, others a foul break with a re-rack and opponent to visit the table possibly with two shots!
I think I've done it a couple of times before but whenever I play I'm always playing against either my dad or brother and they are really good at it. If I win its very rare and definetly something to celebrate!!
