You dont need to ply instruments, not very good anyway. But a general musical knowledge will be neccessary. for example what A, b, c or D chord sounds like... So you can say i want it like this or like that. or it sounds bad or good, tonal or atonal...
Well, Timbaland doesn't know crap all about music, but he's an extremely successful producer and "artist".
