Writers only get about 3 cents on a typical DVD retailing for $20. I understand why they're pissed.
There are many issues, but the main one is that writers want a bigger cut of royalties from DVD and Internet releases of their movies. Other workers in Hollywood argue that their wages are not in-keeping with the multi-millions of dollars that the studios make every year. Basically, the studio's greed is the source of the problem.
Note - A typical writer gets around 10 cent for a 20 dollar DVD.

What does it matter? I still get my great "According to Jim" reruns! And also, when I get tired of those (hard to believe, but it happens) I can just pop in my "Fireplace Log" DVD and watch it burn.
