Why do top-40 radio stations play the same songs 500 times a day?!

haha i wonder that too...
there's not many good artists out here thats why. so they feel that they have to play the same song over and over and over again. hip hop for example, isnt as hot as it used to be. the 80s and 90s, hip hop was the thing to listen to. nowadays you dont even hear music anymore. songs are kinda lame now.
This is very simple. The radio stations get paid by the record companies to promote the music. Top 40 radio stations don't really get a choice to play what the DJs want. There are marketing dollars being spent by local advertisers for air time and the record companies dictate to some degree which artist will have his/her songs played most often.
There are non-profit radio stations that can choose which artists they will play. These are usually found on college campuses and are not Top 40 stations.
