The gauge of strings on electrics is usually lighter than that of acoustics, so fretting chords with the left hand requires less pressure, and thus seems "easier" to play. As a beginner has to develop their finger strength and the calluses on their fingertips, a more forgiving guitar will enable the student to practice longer.

In my admittedly limited experience, I find my electric (Squire strat) to be much easier to fret than my acoustic (Yamaha steel string). When/if my kids show interest in playing, I’ll most likely steer them toward the electric first.

Below is one of many sites that say the electric is easier to play vs the acoustic.

i've heard it is better to learn to play accoustic first.
both my brothers learned electric first and then learned accoustic and they do fine.
Accoustic has harder to pluck strings and teaches you the basics very well while electric is a lot easier to pluck and is a much different style.
I think you can go either way!

Keith Richards told me good guitarist is mesaured by his ability of playing acoustic guitar.

electric guitar involves more advanced skills then just an acoustic guitar so it would be easyer for if you started playing acoustic but it just depends what your skill level is, it's not like if you start with electric you will never be a good guitarist it's just guitar might be easyer.

To be honest, an entry level acoustic sounds a hell of a lot better than an entry level electric set-up. Learn the basics (including music reading and theory), then decide which way you wanna go. It never hurts to have both at your disposal, hehe...
I learned to play on electrics, and learned to play acoustics later on. Still prefer to play electric, though. That's just my personal preference...
